Holland’s Health Ministry has indicated that it will be increasing the fines for anyone found selling alcohol to underage drinkers.

The Dutch press also reported that Health Minister Hans Hoogervorst will propose to the Dutch cabinet that inspectors be granted the power to impose fines directly to owners of shops, pubs or petrol stations, who are found guilty of supplying under age drinkers.

The plan is to bring fines for alcohol sales in line with those for underage tobacco sales. At present those selling tobacco to underage consumers face a fine of €450 (US$516) and €4,500 if caught three times.
