The German drinks company, Berentzen-Gruppe AG, has reported a net profit of €2.1m (US$2.3m) for 2002, representing a 36.4% increase from 2001.

The company stated that turnover fell by 8.0% year-on-year to €185.6m (US$202.4m). Domestic sales of schnapps had fallen by 8.0% to €82.2m, (US$89.7m), the company said.

Berentzen also said that sales of soft drinks, which account for around 20% of the company’s turnover, fell by 8.6% in 2002 which the company attributed to strong competition.
