The Supreme Court in El Salvador has placed a temporary block on imports of Pepsi.
The extraordinary order to the country’s customs officials has come as the result of a dispute between bottlers in El Salvador and Guatemala.
Currently the drink is imported into the country by the Guatemala-based company, La Mariposa. However the domestic bottler, Embotelladora La Cascada, is challenging that franchise.
It claims it has the rights under Salvadoran law to the Pepsi name.
The court also ordered La Cascada to avoid selling Pepsi locally while it weighs up the facts of the case before making a decision.
Pepsi said it would attempt to get the court to reconsider its decision.
