Concha y Toro has announced its creation of the role of technical director across its wine-producing operations.
Marcelo Papa, the group’s winemaker responsible for the Casillero del Diablo and Marques de Casa Concha brands, is set to assume the position, CyT confirmed earlier today. Papa will “lead the technical management of the company’s entire product portfolio, emphasising the dedication to excellence in production aiming for the highest quality in its most valuable wines,” the company said.
Since joining CyT in 1998, when he assumed responsibility for Casillero del Diablo, Papa also took production control of Marques de Casa Concha a year later.
“The appointment of Marcelo to this position serves to reinforce the important focus on quality that the winery aims to embody in all of its wines,” said CyT CEO Eduardo Guilisasti. “The company’s solid growth has been made possible thanks to its permanent investment plan, which has strengthened production capacity and proprietary vineyards, with a constant focus on obtaining the highest quality and further developing the premium wine category, targeting our investments towards this segment.”
Earlier this month, CyT reported a 4.5% decrease in sales for the first nine months of 2017, with the company blaming its introduction of price increases in the third quarter, along with an increased focus on the premium end of its portfolio.
