Winery owner Michael Baum had an extensive career in digital sales before purchasing Chateau de Pommard in 2014. As well as working for Yahoo, he held a senior role with Disney heading up the media giant’s e-commerce operations. Speaking to Just Drinks last year, Baum said he is focussing on direct-to-consumer shipping in an attempt to cut out middlemen and retain control over branding.

“For owners and producers, who today are not getting the lion’s share of the value of a bottle, and are dependent upon all of these other people to tell their story, [direct-to-consumer] is a breath of fresh air,” Baum said.
