English winery Chapel Down has secured 'official sparkling wine' status with the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The arrangement, announced this week, represents the first time a non-Champagne has held the title with cricket's governing body in the country. When contacted by Just Drinks today, a spokesperson for the ECB confirmed Chapel Down is taking over from Moet Hennessy's Veuve Clicquot brand in the position. Veuve Clicquot's sponsorship ran from "around 2005 to 2019", the spokesperson said. Financial details of Chapel Down's three-year tie-up were not disclosed. “It’s great to be teaming up with a quality home-grown brand across international, domestic and recreational cricket,” said ECB sales & marketing director Russell James. Industry peer Accolade Wines previously sponsored the ECB through Hardys, with the Australian brand holding the 'official wine' moniker for an initial three years from 2014 before extending the deal further two years later. Last year, Chapel Down appointed the former MD of Chase Distillery, Andrew Carter, as its CEO. Carter replaced Frazer Thompson as the head of the English winery.
