Casella Family Wines has launched a lower-calorie line for its Yellow Tail wine brand.

The four-strong Yellow Tail Pure Bright range is available immediately from selected retailers across the US, as well as from the company’s website. The line-up comprises:

  • Sauvignon Blanc – 8.5% abv
  • Pinot Grigio – 8.5% abv
  • Chardonnay – 9.6% abv

“Until now, lower calorie wines have been seen as light on flavour, that was a trade-off we weren’t willing to make,” said Casella Brands’ MD, John Casella. “We took the opposite approach, ensuring great taste and then working our way backward to deliver on making it lighter.”

According to the company, “proprietary blending techniques and reverse osmosis” are used to reduce the wine’s alcohol content while retaining flavour.

Yellow Tail launched a significant US marketing push in October, following what Casella described as a “brand identity refresh”.
