UK beer drinkers should prepare themselves for price rises in the coming weeks, the founder of Cobra Beer has warned.

Speaking to BBC radio earlier this week, Lord Karan Bilimoria said that costs across his company’s production, supply chain and staffing were up, creating a “vicious cycle” of cost pressures. Bilimoria did not speculate on how much more drinkers would have to pay for beer in the UK.

“Our input costs in every way – bottling, energy – are up,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live’s ‘Wake Up to Money’ programme. “Freight costs have soared, sometimes ten times – the consumer is already feeling the squeeze.”

Bilimoria joined executives from other beverage brand owners such as Carlsberg, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners and Keurig Dr Pepper to voice concerns over growing inflationary pressures in recent months.

Cobra was rescued from administration back in 2009 by Molson Coors Beverage Co, with the US-based company setting up a JV with Bilimoria.
