Beam Suntory has released the second in this year’s two-strong line from Maker’s Mark’s annual ‘Wood Finishing Series’ of bottlings.

FAE-02, which joins March’s first expression in the Bourbon’s sub-portfolio, comprises cask-strength Maker’s Mark that has been finished in barrels that also hold staves made from virgin French oak. FAE-01 underwent the same ageing process but with American oak staves.

The pair take their name from the abbreviation for fatty acid esters, which, according to the brand owner, are present in spirit that has not been chill-filtered.

Available across the US off-premise in limited – albeit unspecified – quantities, Maker’s Mark FAE-02 will also feature in this month’s pack from ‘The Whisky Drop’, the brand’s direct-to-consumer subscription service, in Kentucky and Washington DC.
