Beam Suntory’s Laphroaig 2021 Càirdeas edition, Pedro Ximénez Cask will launch at the virtual Fèis Ìle Festival on 1 June. The expression, which is limited to 3,500 nine-litre cases, will be available via the brand’s website and through selected US retailers from 1 July.
The liquid in the non-age statement iteration has been triple matured, first in ex-Bourbon barrels, then in quarter casks before spending time in European oak Hogshead casks that previously held Pedro Ximénez Sherry.
The Càirdeas series takes its name from the Gaelic word for ‘friendship’.
Earlier this month, Beam Suntory confirmed plans to take control of Maxxium Spain from joint-venture partner Edrington.
Scotch whisky has been a slow, but consistently growing sector in the US, according to figures from GlobalData. From 2015 to 2019, the category grew its US volumes at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.6%. Due to the coronavirus pandemic and tariffs imposed on the sector by the US government in late-2019, volumes are forecast to have fallen by 10% in 2020 on the previous year. However, growth is predicted to resume, albeit at a stunted CAGR of 1.3% through to 2024.
