Australian wine exports reached new highs in value and value for the year ended January 2003, according to latest figures from Wine and Brandy Corporation.


Volume grew 25% for the year to January 2002, according to the Corporation, which issues year to year figures on a monthly basis. A total of 474m litres was sold for an average A$4.87 a litre (US$2.92).


Value rose 31% to reach A$2.31 billion. The UK continues to be Australia’s biggest customer though the percentage actually fell 3% in volume to 46%.


This was in part because sales to the US surged ahead with a 56% rise to 122m litres and 68% by value to A$754m. Canada was in third place.
