Quilmes stressed that the court’s intervention was purely on a matter of law and was not part of the anti-trust investigation itself. “This court’s decision has nothing to do with the merits of the merger. An Argentinean court has blocked the granting of regulatory approval for the merger of the Argentine brewer, Quilmes, with the Brazilian group, Ambev. The court ruled that regulatory approval could not be granted by the country's anti-trust authorities until it had examined a request by a local competitor, Isenbeck, to take an active role in the inquiry.
