But as just-drinks’ columnist Andrew Jefford argues, nothing could be further from the truth, as breadth of choice fights back against the bland. What does it take to conquer the world? Not very much, it would seem, at least in brewing terms. A blind tasting of Budweiser, Carlsberg, Heineken, Stella Artois, Sol, Foster’s and Kronenbourg is about as exciting as a walk round an industrial estate on a wet Saturday night. Among universally available beers, only Guinness offers any sort of a challenge to the taste buds.
