Lotte Chilsung and Nestle are among the companies best positioned to take advantage of future cybersecurity disruption in the beverages industry, according to recent research.
The assessment comes from GlobalData’s ‘Thematic Research’ ecosystem, which ranks companies on a scale of one to five, based on their likelihood to tackle challenges like cybersecurity. According to the analysis, Nestle is well-placed to benefit from its investments in the area. The group, which owns the Perrier and S. Pellegrino packaged water brands, advertised for 127 new cybersecurity-related roles in the 12 months of 2021, and referenced the term twice in its filings.
The table below shows how GlobalData scored the biggest companies in beverages on their cybersecurity performance, as well as the number of new cybersecurity jobs, deals, patents and mentions in company reports since January 2021.
The far-right column in the table represents the overall score given to a company based on its current cybersecurity position relative to industry peers. A score of five indicates that a company is a dominant player in this area, while companies that score less than three are vulnerable to being left behind.
The other datapoints showcase recent cybersecurity investment across a range of areas over the past year. These metrics give an indication of whether cybersecurity is at least high on executives’ list of priorities.
A high number of mentions of cybersecurity in quarterly company filings suggests the company is reaping the rewards from previous investments or needs to invest more to catch up with its industry peers. Similarly, a high number of deals could indicate a company is dominating the market, or that it is using M&A to plug gaps in its offering.
