Carbonated soft drinks is still the largest soft drink beverage category in the US, but drinking habits are changing and bottled water is looking stronger than ever with 4.3 billion gallons sold in the US in 1999. A report by Beverage Marketing Corporation of New York called The Multiple Beverage Marketplace in the US, said that the CSD category sold nearly 15.3 billion gallons but saw only a 0.6% growth in 1999. While the bottled water sector, which sold 4.3 gallons in 1999 has increased its growth rate to 12.8%.
