Carlsberg-owned Baltika Breweries has seen an appeals court in its native Russia slash a fine imposed on the company.

Baltika, which leads Russia’s beer market with a 40% volume share, was originally fined RUB2.1bn (US$70.5m) over a contract dispute with malt producer Russky Solod.

However, an arbitration appeals court has this week reduced the sum to RUB300m, a spokesperson for Carlsberg confirmed to just-drinks today (4 March).

The dispute related to malt purchases between 2008 and 2009.

Further details were unavailable and Carlsberg declined to comment further. It is understood that the company is still awaiting the full court documents at its headquarters in Denmark.
