Italian investment firm Wellness Holding has made a minority investment in Acqua Filette, a high-end Italian mineral water brand.

Financial details were undisclosed, however Acqua Filette told Just Drinks that Wellness Holding, owned by the Italian Alessandri family, is taking a 49% stake in the company.

In a statement, Filette said the “partnership” with the investment group was a “new milestone” in its “strategic development”. 

Founded in 1894 and led by the Ricci family, Acqua Filette sells luxury mineral water brands in glass and aluminium bottles, catering to upmarket restaurants and hotels.  

According to CEO Pietro Ricci, “Filette is a prime water brand born in 1894, unique in the world for its history, composition, and identity. Filette is a family company that has, for generations, enhanced a natural heritage unlike any other”.  

“Entering this new phase with the Alessandri family means embracing a long-term project founded on shared values: meticulous attention to detail, a passion for excellence, and a commitment to bringing Filette to the most iconic places where quality and wellness meet,” Ricci added.

Acqua Filette will focus on three key areas that include “the purity of its source, brand positioning, and international expansion into the world’s most exclusive locations”. 

It added that it would be supported by Wellness Holding’s “global expertise and network in hospitality and healthy longevity”. 

The luxury bottled water maker told Just Drinks it was looking to target “international expansion in markets ready to welcome high quality products where there are realities with a premium target”.

Wellness Holding president Nerio Alessandri said: “Water is a fundamental element of life and, consequently, a true source of health – the new luxury. Filette, a brand that combines ethics, quality, and premium positioning, perfectly aligns with our long-term mission to improve people’s quality of life through prevention and healthy longevity.  

“We believe in the Ricci family’s experience and Filette’s management, and together we will join forces to develop the brand worldwide.” 

Filette’s portfolio inlcudes the brands La Bordolese, La Spirit, and La Futura, offering still or sparkling water in packages ranging from 750ml to 375ml, priced between €30 ($34) and €50.
