New York’s mayor’s administration has been attacked for a US$166m deal it has made with Cadbury Schweppes.
The New York City comptroller accused the administration of violating “the fundamental aspects of standard public bidding,” the Wall Street Journal reports.
The deal gives Cadbury exclusivity in vending machines in over 7,000 schools and buildings in the city. Snapple, produced by Cadbury, has also been made the official drink of the New York Yankees baseball team.
Comptroller William Thompson added that the contracts were improperly negotiated by a marketing group that does business with Cadbury.
