Allied Domecq has granted a license to American Beverage Corporation to launch a line of non-alcoholic cocktail mixers, which will include products for its Kahlua, Sauza Tequila and Malibu brands.
ABC launched the first set of the mixers this summer across the US. Versions of these products will now also be available in the 19 control state markets. The initial flavours are Kahlua Mudslide, Sauza Tequila Traditional Margarita and Malibu Rum Pina Colada. Other flavours are anticipated in the future.
“Allied Domecq anticipates that our non-alcoholic cocktail mixers will open new channels of distribution for the Kahlua, Malibu and Sauza brands, while creating new opportunities for consumers to experience our portfolio,” said Ali Kittermaster, consumer products director at Allied Domecq PLC. “This represents the latest in a series of partnerships, brokered by TLC, to deliver against Allied Domecq’s trademark extension program objectives.”
Allied Domecq has been working with TLC since February 2002 to secure a number of licensees to produce a series of brand extensions for Allied Domecq trademarks in markets around the world. Licensed products include such items as Malibu coconut batter from Kerry Group in the US and Sara Lee Kahlua ice cream in Australia.
Tim Barr, director of marketing for ABC, said: “This partnership brings together two category leaders that should both benefit equally from the new licensed products. Allied Domecq has enormous brand equity and superb relationships with distributors and retailers, while ABC has expertise and heritage in the mixer category. Both companies expect the new mixers to be highly successful.”
