US craft distiller The Cooper Spirits Co has named a new president as it looks to expand distribution across the market.
The company said today that Rick Scully, who was previously president of Peligroso Spirits Co before becoming VP of sales at Cooper, will take the newly-created position. At the same time, Cooper Spirits Co has bolstered an agreement with Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits to expand into 20 additional states and the District of Columbia.
“Rick has been an invaluable asset to Cooper Spirits with his impressive understanding of the industry and dedication to driving the sales of our straight rye whiskey portfolio,” said Katie Cooper, owner of Cooper Spirits Co.
The agreement with SGWS will support plans to grow and expand Cooper’s straight rye whiskey portfolio across the US, the company said. Southern Glazer’s is now the Cooper Spirits distributor for 41 US markets and Canada. The new markets include Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Idaho, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, North Dakota, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming.
Cooper’s late founder Robert Cooper created the St Germain elderflower liqueur brand, which he sold to Bacardi in 2013.
