Takara Shuzo has added two new limited-edition expressions to the Cù Bòcan single malt range produced at its Tomatin distillery in the Scottish Highlands.

Cù Bòcan Creation #3 is a vatting of whiskies matured in Moroccan Cabernet Sauvignon and North American rye whiskey casks, while Creation #4 combines whiskies aged in a mix of tawny Port and Cognac casks. Both single malts do not carry age statements.

The pair are additions to Cù Bòcan Signature, the core offering in the lightly peated range, described as an “experimental” single malt “renowned for exploring innovative maturations”.

Cù Bòcan’s previous limited-edition single malt, Creation #2, was the first to use Japanese shochu casks for Scotch whisky maturation and was released in 2019.

Bottled at 46% abv without chill filtration, there are 4,200 bottles of each expression available globally.

Kyoto-based Takara Shuzo part-owns the Tomatin distillery, with partner Marubeni Corp, also based in Japan, responsible for operations.
