According to research conducted by the Swiss Federal Statistics Office (OFS), alcohol abuse in Switzerland costs the country SF6.5 billion (US$4.947 billion/€4.199 billion) annually.
To estimate the social cost, the study took account of medical costs, the repair of damage caused by alcohol abuse and working days lost.
