Carlsberg Breweries is to cut the price of one of its beers in Sweden, a newspaper report claims. Berlingske Tidende has reported that the brewer intends to lower prices on ‘Blaagul’ beer in an attempt to compete with discount beer ‘Sofiero’. The newspaper did not cite any sources in its report.

Blaagul currently costs 11.90skr (US$1.61) per half litre bottle. Carlsberg intends to reduce the price by 2.20skr to 9.70skr from 1 January next year, according to the daily. This move would undercut ‘Sofiero’, the most sold beer in Systembolaget, the Swedish state-owned drinks retailer, which is priced at 9.90skr per half litre.

Carlsberg declined to comment on the claim.
