US-based Surely Wines has appointed Brandon Joldersma as its CEO alongside a bid for fresh funding to expand its operations.

Texas-headquartered Surely Wines was founded by Ryan Hanson and Justin Mares in 2021. The company produces a range of non-alcoholic wines that are sourced from Californian grape growers.

Its portfolio includes reds, whites and a sparkling brut, as well as a range of 250ml canned wines.

Joldersma previously acted as COO of Still Austin Whiskey Co. and was the general manager of Michigan’s Coppercraft Distillery.

“With his depth of experience in wine and spirits and his proven track record of driving market expansion, coupled with a partner and customer-centric approach, Brandon Joldersma is the perfect leader to take Surely Wines forward and accelerate the company’s growth,” Mares said.

Its fundraising round will be led by venture-capital firm Pure Ventures, with an eye to expanding its product portfolio and distribution.

Surely Wines told Just Drinks its current backers include a mix of angel investors and VC groups including Pure Ventures, Selva Ventures and Redbud VC.

Joldersma told Just Drinks: “The company expanded wholesale sales into traditional retail in 2023, going from zero wholesale revenue in 2022 to $1.8m in 2023, all while maintaining our presence in D2C.

“Our sales growth was achieved by partnering with key retail partners, including Sprouts and Target, where we are part of their permanent national set.”

Asked how Surely Wines planned to continue growth this year, Joldersma said: “We are currently focusing on expanding our market presence and growing our distribution network. While we’re in approximately 1,500 retail stores nationwide, we are continually working to improve our data collection of on-premise points of distribution.”
