Indian spirits and beer business Som Distilleries and Breweries has acquired Woodpecker Greenagri Nutrients for an unknown sum.
In a stock exchange filing yesterday (17 November), Som Distilleries described Woodpecker Greenagri Nutrients as “an integrated alcobev manufacturing project”, based in the Farrukhabad district of Uttar Pradesh.

The business has already been a “related party” of Som Distilleries, the filing said. The latest deal will make it a “wholly-owned subsidiary”.
The group has a Woodpecker beer brand in its portfolio. According to its website, it also has a Woodpecker Distilleries and Breweries production site in Karnataka.
Through Woodpecker Greenagri Nutrients, Som Distilleries said in the filing it planned to build two new production facilities in two phases.

By GlobalDataThe first phase will see the Black Fort lager maker construct a brewery through the Woodpecker unit. The new site, Som Distilleries said, would make sure its drinks “are easily available in Uttar Pradesh and [the] northern region of the country”.
In the second phase of the project, Som Distilleries will also build a distillery, “to further strengthen the company’s production capabilities and product portfolio”.
Details on the expected timeline for these two building projects were not disclosed.
The stock exchange filing also said: “This move will also ensure that the company achieves better operational alignment, streamlined decision-making, and enhanced strategic integration with Som Distilleries and Breweries.
“It will further enable optimal utilisation of resources, improved governance, and a unified approach toward future expansion and value creation for all stakeholders.”
Som Distilleries’ portfolio includes the beer brands Black Fort, Woodpecker, Legend and Hunter. It spirits range features Pentagon Rum, White Fox Vodka and Genius Prestige Whisky
Besides its Woodpecker facility in Karnataka, the Indian beverage-alcohol group also has production facilities in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh; Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh; and Cuttack, Odisha.
