Ellers Farm Distillery has snapped up fellow UK business Bramley and Gage, the owner of 6 O’Clock gin, from Hyde Park Spirits.

The deal, struck for an undisclosed sum, is Ellers Farm’s first acquisition. It will see 6 O’Clock gin join an Ellers Farm range that includes Dutch Barn vodka and Y gin.

In a statement, Ellers Farm, which counts actor and comedian Ricky Gervais as an investor, said the acquisition was part of its efforts to own “distinctive, high-quality drinks”.

As part of the acquisition, 17 full-time employees from Bramley and Gage will be joining Ellers Farm.

The new owner is planning to expand the distribution of 6 O’Clock gin, which is available in the UK, continental Europe and in parts of the US.

“It is a big step for us to bring quality brands that we believe we can add value to and that are complementary to our customer offering in all channels globally. We believe it’s important to have a range of brands that are synergistic with each other and have a true purpose and unique scalable value proposition,” Ellers Farm founder and CEO Chris Fraser told Just Drinks.

Asked what 6 O’Clock gin adds to the Ellers Farm range, Fraser told added: “Y gin is a range of gins that celebrates Yorkshire’s rich culinary heritage, with a strong regional identity and flavour-led approach.

“6 O’Clock brings something complementary to our portfolio. It is an elegant, established brand with international recognition, that has the potential to resonate with modern gin drinkers around the world. Together, our two gin brands offer distinct and complementary perspectives within the gin category but both support Dutch Barn vodka as our primary focus.”

The Yorkshire-based distillery launched Dutch Barn vodka, its largest brand, into the US in March.
