Poland’s spirit producers, through the trade body The National Council of Spirit Processing, are calling on the country’s finance ministry to reduce drinks excise tax by half.
In October 2002, the Ministry reduced the vodka excise duty by 30%, which caused a significant increase in spirit sales.
At the time the ministry said that if the tax cuts increased revenues and bolstered the sector’s performance it would consider further moves to drop tax.
Producers claim lower duty would increase sales and help combat black market alcohol trade. The Finance Ministry has yet to respond.
