There are 22 liquor producers in Poland, five of which are owned by the government and 17 of which are partly state-controlled. The excise cut will bring excise levels nearer to those of neighbouring countries and will result in a 20% reduction in retail spirits prices.
POLAND: President signs excise cut law
The Polish president, Aleksander Kwasniewski, has signed the bill which will see excise rates in Poland cut by 30% in 2003. The measure is aimed at boosting sales of local spirits producers.
