The move is a response to calls from both spirits companies and revenue collection agencies which have both requested a reduction in excise. Distilleries and tax officials alike believe that the excise reduction will reduce smuggling and the illegal production of alcohol and ultimately increase tax revenues.
POLAND: Government cuts spirits excise by 30%
The Polish government has taken action to reduce the rampant smuggling problem the country is suffering by slashing excise taxes on spirits by 30%. The excise on spirits has been reduced to PLN4,400 per 100 litres of pure alcohol.
