The Mexican soft drink bottler Femsa, in a partnership with the Coca-Cola Company is planning to spend over US$20m on building a recycling plant in Mexico.


The plant is expected to be able to recycle some 25,000 tons of PET plastic bottles a year.


According to local reports the building will being in Spetember in Toluca and wil use state-of-the-art URCC recycling technology developed in the US. It is apparently the first of its kind in Latin America and the fourth in the world.


Jose Octavio Reyes, Coca-Cola chief in Latin America, said: “Initiatives such as this are the result of a clear awareness that, in order to continue to operate here for many years, we must ensure the sustainable development of our business. We’re convinced that only companies sharing this philosophy will be successful in the future.”
