The Iranian based-cola producer Zam Zam Cola has sold over half a million cans in Malaysia, according to a company official yesterday.
The drink was launched in January by its distributor in the country Al Fajr, a Malaysian food business.
Though the sales in Malaysia still represent less than 2% of Malaysia’s soft drink market, Al Fajr said it now plans to open a factory in 2004 to manufacture the drink locally.
The drink shipped more than 10m bottles in the last four months of 2002 globally.
The company markets the drink as an Islamic alternative to US-owned colas such as Coca-Cola and Pepsi Cola.
