Yuzz contains GreenIuronic, which Mahou San Miguel described as “a new generation of natural, non-animal-derived hyaluronic acid” and has been developed by ingredients group Vivatis Pharma.

The Vitamin C in the drinks “contributes to normal collagen formation, an essential component for healthy skin and helps protect it from oxidative damage”, Mahou San Miguel added.

The launch of Yuzz marks the group’s move into “functional soft drinks”, the company said.

“Consumers are increasingly prioritising wellbeing, hydration, and functional benefits,” a Mahou San Miguel spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added “the functional beverage segment is one of the fastest-growing categories”, citing “estimated annual growth of around 6.8–7%”.

Yuzz is available in Spain through Amazon, delivery app Glovo, Mahou San Miguel’s online store and online pharmacies.

On the company’s e-commerce site, the drinks are available for €1.65 ($1.92) a can and €19.80 for a pack of 12. Physical distribution is due to begin next month.

Mahou San Miguel, which said it developed Yuzz with influencer María Pombo, added the drinks are being made at its site in Alovera, north of Madrid. Production will shift to a plant the company has further south in Córdoba from July.

Miguel Ángel Cabrero, the innovation hub director at Mahou San Miguel, said: “With Yuzz, we are expanding our presence into new consumption occasions associated with personal care and moving forward with our beverage diversification strategy.”

Mahou San Miguel already markets mineral waters, energy drinks, coffee and wine-based beverages.

In January, the brewer entered the Middle East market with a new non-alcoholic malt beverage called Vamos by Mahou. Initially launching in Egypt, the range includes four variants: classic toasted malt, pineapple with caramel, apple with cinnamon, and peach with vanilla.

The company, which already produces non-alcoholic beers for its domestic Spanish market under the Mahou and Alhambra brands, introduced its first non-alcoholic offering for the US under the Founders Brewing brand earlier this year.
