In Japan, coffee has been outperforming tea in both sales and growth. In 2002 coffee was worth $4.7 billion and tea $3.3 billion. However, it is expected that tea will have double the growth rate of coffee over the 2002-07 period and therefore reduce the gap between the two sectors.
