The Japanese soft drinks producer, Kirin Beverage Corp., has recalled five brands of soft drinks because they contain an additive which is banned in Japan.

According to reports, the company said the additive, N-ethyl-4-menthane-3-carboxamide, present in the drinks, is legal in Europe and the US and does not have any negative effects on health.

The products concerned are reported to be Kiriri Suna in cans, PET bottles and paper packs, Kiriri Monifla and Moechau Kiriri in 500 ml PET bottles, as well as Kirin Mets Grapefruit and Red Grape in 410 ml PET bottles.
