INDIA: Government gets tough on soft drink labelling
A further notification introduced by the Indian government now makes it compulsory for soft drink producers to print the expiry date and product ingredient details on all soft drink bottles. The government issued similar notification back in December 2000 giving companies three months to fall in line with the new notice. But producers lobbying the government claimed it was logistically impossible because 50m cases of returnable glass bottles, weighing 2.4m tonnes of glass would have to be destroyed and replaced.
