The franchise bottler for Coca-Cola products in Hong Kong has had to recall 200 cans of Lemon Coke Light, due to consumer reports of particles found in the drink.

Swire Coca-Cola Hong Kong said in a statement: “After thorough investigation, it has been determined that the problem relates to the inner liner of the can peeling off.”

It said the inner liner was made up of a soft, non-toxic material approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. It posed no health risk.

The inner liner apparently broke down because the cans went through an incomplete baking process as a result of a power failure at the can supplier’s factory.

The company said it very much regretted the incident and the necessary steps had been taken to ensure there was no repetition.
