Soft drinks volumes increased by 28% while beer volumes were 2.5% higher. However, Kulmbacher said sales of its four principal beer brands, Kulmbach, EKU, Kapuziner and Moenchshof, had fallen by 2% in the first half of 2001. The company attributed the fall to softer export sales and poor weather in Germany. Nevertheless, Kulmbacher said it expects 2002 sales of the four main brands to be on a par with the 2001 figure of 1.95m hls.
