The German brewer Holsten Brauerei is planning to acquire the water producer Heemann Group for up to €100m (US114.3m) it was reported yesterday.


The Holsten subsidiary Hansa-Brunnen already owns 45% of Heemann. The full acquisition of the company will make Holsten the second largest mineral water producer in Germany after Leisslinger.


Heemann’s brands include mineral water under the names Werretaler, Iris-Quelle, Wildsberg-Quelle or Quintus Quellwasser. Its total output reached 2.3m hectolitres in 2002.


Holsten also owns a 65% stake in Hansa-Brunnen, which with two water plants, produced 4.1m hectolitres of mineral water, lemonade and juice in 2002.
