GERMANY: German wine exports fall to 213.4m litres
German wine exports fell by 1.7% in 2001 to 213.4m litres, according to figures released by the German wine association, Verband Deutscher Weinexporteure (VDW). In 2001, Germany exported wine to some 144 countries. However, the average price of German exported wines rose by 5% in 2001 to €1.57 ($1.37) per litre. The UK is still the largest export market for German wine, accounting for 41.6% of the total in 2001. Other major markets are the US, Japan, the Netherlands and Sweden.
