Champagne growers’ union Syndicat Général des Vignerons de la Champagne (SGV), which represents 20,000 growers and cooperatives, has elected Pascal Férat as its new president.

Just before Christmas, SGV president Jean-Mary Tarlant resigned after only two weeks in the job. The SGV’s board stepped down en bloc too.

The resignations followed an Extraordinary General Meeting called by a large number of SGV members seeking an explanation on the ousting of former president, Patrick Le Brun, at the end of November.

Férat, 53, manages 11 hecatres of vineyards, situated in the Côte des Blancs, south of Epernay and also heads the La Goutte d’Or co-operative.
