The French wine group, Jeanjean, is to acquire the Provence wine producer, Chateau Baron Georges Gassier, from the Gassier family.
No financial details of the deal were published. The purchase appears to be in line with Jeanjean’s stated strategy of becoming more involved in wine production.
The Gassier deal follows Jeanjean’s acquisition of the Cahors wine group, Rigal, last month.
Jeanjean, which is based in the Languedoc, recorded sales of €32.1m (US$37.9m) for the first three months of 2003, against €29.5m (US$34.9m) in the first quarter of 2002.
