According to data released by the inter-professional council for the Bordeaux wine region, the CIVB, wine sales slipped by 0.1% in the 2001/2002 season to €3.16 billion (US$3.43 billion). Sales in volume terms fell by 0.2% to 5.92m hectolitres.

However, Bordeaux wine exports rose by 4% to 2.19m hectolitres and by 7% in value terms to €1.27 billion (US$1.37 billion).
