French organic wines trader Biovidis has acquired the Château La Rèze Gravade in Azille, in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, from Louis and Henri Andrieu, for an undisclosed sum.
Covering 75-hectares, it is one of the three biggest vineyards in France for the cultivation of organic grapes and produces AOC Minervois and Vins de Pays d’Oc, a company spokesman told just-drinks on Tuesday (9 March).
Loire-based Biovidis, which was set up in 1995, markets around 80 AOC wines and vins de pays from around 40 producers located in each of France’s major growing regions, representing 750,000 bottles a year. Around 100,000 bottles are exported.
Last year, Biovidis launched its own brand name, dedicated to the supermarket channel and with an initial offering of an AOC Bordeaux and AOC Côtes du Provence, the spokesman said.
“This,year we are extending the Biovidis range to vins de pays, as well introducing a further two AOCs – Côtes du Rhône and Muscadet. A second own brand is being launched too – Orgavita – tailored to the traditional retail outlets for organic produce and also to export markets.”
“Our objective is to attain annual volumes of 100,000 bottles for each of the Biovidis and Orgavita brands as soon as possible,” he added.
