Alsace wine exports returned to growth in the first half of 2010, show figures obtained by just-drinks from regional trade body CIVA.

Exports rose by 3.7% in volume and by 6% in value, to EUR57.7m (US$79.8m), compared with the first six months of 2009. For the whole of 2009, exports fell by 8.6% in volume and 12% in value when compared to 2008.

In the first half of 2010, export volumes to the UK rose by 27%, but volumes were unchanged to the Euro zone as a whole. As for the main destinations, Alsace wine volumes to the US and Canada increased by 9.9% and 11.5% respectively.

In terms of the value of exports, there were strong gains in shipments to the UK (+24.3%) and the US (+17%), but exports only rose by 1% for the Euro zone, CIVA said today (29 October).
