Chile’s wine producers, under the trade association Vinas de Chile, and counterparts in the brewing industry, through their trade body the Asociacion de Cervezas de Chile, are protesting against plans to raise tax on beer and wine in the country.
The groups have met Chilean congressmen and senators to lodge their opposition against the government’s plan to increase tax on wine and beer by between 15% and 19%.
The industry bodies warned that the tax increase would lead to the loss of about 5,000 jobs.
A combined Pesos150m marketing campaign is being launched against the tax increase.
