Paramount Retail Group has hired Buxton Brewery’s MD to head Great British Drinks Company, home to businesses including Saltaire Brewery and Black Sheep Brewery.
In a post on LinkedIn, Dominic Metcalfe, the former MD of local beer business Buxton Brewery, said he was starting the new role at Great British Drinks Company today (6 July).

“I am incredibly honoured to start my new role as managing director of the Great British Drinks Company today,” Metcalfe said.
“As a company, we define ourselves as stewards of incredible breweries and brands, many of which have played a pivotal part in my journey through beer.”
He added: “I now have the privilege of helping to shape the future of these iconic heritage brands along with the rest of the team at GBDC and I could not be more excited to get to work.”
Paramount Retail Group bought a clutch of assets from fellow UK beer business Keystone at the beginning of this year.
The move came after Keystone Brewing Group filed a notice to appoint administrators in November.
Great British Drinks Company was formed to house these assets. In January, Paramount described the entity as an “independent subsidiary” and “backed by the family entrepreneurs behind Paramount Retail Group”.
Paramount acquired Keystone’s Black Sheep brewery in North Yorkshire and its Purity site in Alcester in Warwickshire in January.
The transaction also included brands like Purity Brewing Co, Brew By Numbers and Magic Rock Brewing.
Just Drinks has approached the privately owned UK-based food-and-drink company for comment on the appointment.
Metcalfe had been at the helm of Buxton since November 2023. He left that position last week, he said on LinkedIn.
“I leave the business in a healthy position – busy venues in growth, both top and bottom line, new national and regional grocery listings, widened export markets, national Pub Co wins and a rapidly growing e-commerce business amongst other successes,” Metcalfe said last week.
