Consumption of mineral water in Bulgaria is rising at around 15% a year, according to figures released by the national association of soft drinks producers.

The country’s output of mineral water is expected to reach 160m litres in the first six months of 2003 compared to 130 million litres in the first six months of 2002.

Sales of water already registered a 12% year-on-year rise in the first quarter of 2003 and the second quarter is expected to register an 18% rise, compared to the same period last year.

Mineral water exports still only total some 1.5 million to 2.0 million litres annually, which is 1% of the total annual output.
