By GlobalDataThe area under vine in Bulgaria should reach 190,000 hectares from the present 150,000 ha by the time the county accedes to the EU, if plans by the Bulgarian Agriculture Ministry are fulfilled. The moves are in place partly because Bulgaria will not be allowed to increase vineyard areas after the country joins the EU. Local reports say that a department at the executive agency on vineyards and wine will be set up by May 2003 to supervise the planting and uprooting of vineyards.
