Exports of cachaca, the Brazilian national spirit, reached 14.8m litres in 2002, according to statistics published by the Gazeta Mercantil.

Exports represent a small fraction, just over 1%, of total cachaca production, which stood at 1.3 billion litres in 2002. Germany accounts for around a third of cachaca exports.
