Anheuser-Busch InBev has filed a lawsuit to secure the rights to the web domain name www.abinbev.com, currently held by an individual in South Korea.

The Stella Artois and Budweiser brewer claims that its name gives it the right to own the website name abinbev.com.

“This domain name includes trademarks owned by our company and that are associated with us,” an A-B InBev spokesperson told just-drinks today (19 January).

“We are pursuing this so consumers looking for our company will not be directed to a site unrelated to us.”

Records show that www.abinbev.com was registered to a “J S Wook” based in Seoul, South Korea, in May 2008; around the same time that rumours of an InBev takeover of Anheuser-Busch surfaced.

Little has been uploaded to the website, except for what appears to be the logo for a dating agency.

A-B InBev has been forced to use the hyphenated web address, www.ab-inbev.com, since InBev bought its US rival for an industry record US$52bn in late 2008.
